We’re only 25 minutes away from the Australia Zoo at Beerwah, so close that many of our guests pop down to create or top up wonderful memories of the amazing animals and entertaining shows on every day at this world-famous facility.
If you haven’t been before, there’s no better time to visit than Steve Irwin Day, Thursday 15 November 2018. Hot tips! Wear khaki for 10% off the admission price and make it in the gates early to enjoy a free brekky. Then check out your favourite animals before the official opening ceremony at 11.20 in the Crocoseum. Adam Brand will be performing live, before the croc-feeding and Wildlife Warriors show starts! Get your tickets here.
But never mind if you can’t make it on 15 November, our guests can ask for a voucher which will give them 5% off the admission price.
Here are (some of) our current faves for a day at the zoo.
First, we always make our way to the Africa enclosure where you are guaranteed to see lanky giraffes strolling around with zebras,
and further on, some enormous Southern White rhinos (this pic courtesy of Australia Zoo).
Then to some smaller members of the African family, the always entertaining meerkats in their own enclosure.
The Sumatran tiger in the tiger temple area is on our list and nearby, the striking Red Pandas.
As a herpetologist and lover of all things scaly, Andrew (co-owner of Artisan Spa Views) always includes a visit to the giant pythons and lizards; the majestic perentie is a favourite.
Don’t miss the wombat enclosure, and you can get up close and pat a wombat if you go on one the zoo’s many animal encounters.
Echidnas, dingoes and koalas are also on the encounter list – there’s so much to see and do!
A day at the zoo is a great addition to your getaway in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.
