Summer holiday Views Artisan Spa Views Maleny Sunshine Coast Hinterland Sunset

Welcome to our sub-tropical summer holiday bed and breakfast news. Dramatic views and spectacular rain on the mountain ranges as the sun sets in the west. After a long dry winter and spring, Artisan Spa Views Bed and Breakfast now have fresh filtered rain water for the spas. With all the great wedding party groups this spring and guests from overseas, Randy and Maree have had a bit of time to   spring clean and set up the gardens.

Watching from the balcony of the Jacuzzi House at Artisan Spa Views, I was  looking towards the  Conondale ranges and saw a truly amazing sunset  with the storm cloud and rain as the sun set slowly in the west.

With only 12 weeks to Christmas – You will need a break before the big event of the year. Take the time out  to relax and walk in the forest and feel the cool water falls of the Obi Obi Creek.  Maleny is where you can see lots of birdlife on these walks including Gardner Falls, Mary Cairncross and the town walk along the Obi Obi Creek.

Life is for ever looking across the valley

Life is for ever looking across the valley

We have the happiest guests in – today – from W.A. They have been watching the beautiful morning mists and gentle rain in the valley.

The sound of water falls in the forest below… Even the cows came to visit on the green hill below.

Green Hills

The cool mountain air has given a new lease of life to weary travellers earlier in the week after a long haul flight from the USA. They are bouncing around ready for new adventures.

Disaster strikes Maleny on Australia Day weekend.

Our office was without power, mobile phone reception, TV, landlines or internet communication.

Many fallen trees over power lines gave the district NO essential services, water, phone, electricity or internet from Sunday 7am 27th up to Wednesday 30th January  noon.

Big Storm from x- cyclone Oswald  – sent disaster through Queensland and our home town Maleny, Witta and Conondale areas.

No contact with the outside world – but we were safe and our guests experienced camping in style by candlelight. They certainly said they rested well with no distractions.

Luckily we invested in a generator and could cycle power to lights and kitchen and the pumps that run the water for guesthouse bathrooms.  We managed making breakfast and meals for guests while the wind and rain stormed down on us.

Any one trying to contact us during this time – We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this act of nature.

Our well wishes and thoughts are with the people who have experienced disaster to their homes and business during these hard times.

Sun is out and cleaning has begun… helping hands are every where. Every thing looking pretty nice now. spick and span.  Trees and garden look abit ratty… but with the heat I’m sure they will burst with new leaf very soon.

Next thing – It will Easter – lots to do ..

What great weather we are having, the days are cooler than Summer but it’s the best time of year to be outdoors. The choice of what to do is yours – from touring around the ridges and down into the valley or staying put right here at Artisan Spa Views  – just to relax.

Explore the Blackall Ranges, Glass House Mountains, the Mary Valley and the beautiful townships of Maleny, Kenilworth, Mapleton, Montville and back to Maleny.

These towns have so much to offer and only a short drive from Artisan Spa Views, beside the stunning views,  rainforest walks and local arts and craft galleries  to restaurants on offer.  What more do you need for a day out?

Hinterland Soul of the Sunshine Coast

Maleny Botanical Gardens   Twelve acres to picnic in; you are surrounded by vibrant flowers, lawn and water features.  Musical entertainment, picnic lunches, morning and afternoon teas are available. Entry is $11 adults.  Visit 233 Maleny-Stanley River Road, Maleny.

Food, food food! The hinterland is renowned for it’s local foods and restaurants. Sample fresh produce from the local dairy farm and cheese and icecream factory.

Drive on the Hinterland Gallery Trail,  with cellar doors to sample and self- drive to roam the highlands.

Wood Artisan

While staying at Artisan Spa Views – Randy will be happy to show you his Work studio and Woodworks of art. All on dispay is for sale.

Come and join us on the beautiful Sunshine Coast Hinterland. We look forward to seeing you here over the Spring and Summer months.. Holidaying  in October, November, December through to January are a perfect time to check out Australia Zoo new additions and africa trails.

Did a little bird watching while having lunch on the balcony today. Plenty of ravens, willy wagtails and beautiful rainbow lorikeets going about their business.

Heron Bird

Even had a straw-necked ibis stroll through the paddock picking up what I’m sure to him were some tasty snacks. Other birds that can be seen on the property include kookaburras, black cockatoos, sulphur-crested cockatoos, galahs, magpies and sparrows.

There are many more species around, but they’d rather be heard than seen.

I’ve been using a cool and free iphone app called Field Guide to Victorian Fauna that Museums Board of Victoria put out to identify our local feathered fellows.

Even though it’s for VIC it contains most species found in Queensland. There is another australian bird guide called The Michael Morcombe eGuide to the Birds of Australia, but I couldn’t bring myself to pay $31.99 for it.

The next time you stay with us at Artisan Spa Views be sure to borrow the binoculars and take a peek for yourself! They’re located right next to the DVD library in the corridor.
