We have the happiest guests in – today – from W.A. They have been watching the beautiful morning mists and gentle rain in the valley.

The sound of water falls in the forest below… Even the cows came to visit on the green hill below.

Green Hills

The cool mountain air has given a new lease of life to weary travellers earlier in the week after a long haul flight from the USA. They are bouncing around ready for new adventures.

Mount Tibrogargan 364m track is a strenuous walking climb, even if it is in the national park. This is a climb, you will need your hands, some good leg muscles, strong heart and lungs with a decent level of fitness to make it to the top.

With it’s ape-like appearance, Tibrogargan can bee seen from the sea, [named by Captain Cook in 1770]  Scarborough, Bribie Island and the Caloundra and when your up on the Hinterland  be amazed when looking over it in the distance.

Tibrogargan is an Aboriginal word believed to mean ‘biting grey glider’. Like the other Glass House Mountain peaks, the mountain is held sacred by Aboriginal people.  Glass House Mountains.

This is the ultimate adventure for any weekend adventurer on foot. Be prepared and tell some one or notify the parks and wild life that you will be up there on a certain day.

Good footwear, good sunscreen, plenty of water and a snack.

This isn’t a gentle, elevated stroll up a mountain. This is a sweaty task – but the view is awesome from the top .. .now the return trip back down….. mobile phone working — wonder if the helicopter will come and rescue me….!.

Disaster strikes Maleny on Australia Day weekend.

Our office was without power, mobile phone reception, TV, landlines or internet communication.

Many fallen trees over power lines gave the district NO essential services, water, phone, electricity or internet from Sunday 7am 27th up to Wednesday 30th January  noon.

Big Storm from x- cyclone Oswald  – sent disaster through Queensland and our home town Maleny, Witta and Conondale areas.

No contact with the outside world – but we were safe and our guests experienced camping in style by candlelight. They certainly said they rested well with no distractions.

Luckily we invested in a generator and could cycle power to lights and kitchen and the pumps that run the water for guesthouse bathrooms.  We managed making breakfast and meals for guests while the wind and rain stormed down on us.

Any one trying to contact us during this time – We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this act of nature.

Our well wishes and thoughts are with the people who have experienced disaster to their homes and business during these hard times.

Sun is out and cleaning has begun… helping hands are every where. Every thing looking pretty nice now. spick and span.  Trees and garden look abit ratty… but with the heat I’m sure they will burst with new leaf very soon.

Next thing – It will Easter – lots to do ..

After your sumpsuous Breakfast in your suite  take a 20 minutes drive from Artisan Spa Views – go early our guest tell us as it gets quite busy after midday. Bring along a beach towel and brave the waters if you dare. This isn’t your average local swimming hole.

The highlight is Skene Creek, which drops 90 metres over falls to the rainforest valley below. The endless spectacles is spellbinding and can be seen from two easy walking circuits – the 1.7km (45min – 1hr) Picnic Creek Circuit to the longer but worthwhile 4.7km (2-3hrs) Kondalilla Falls walk.

Mind the 100 plus stairs! Growing in popularity, summer traditionally brings large crowds to Kondalilla (an Aboriginal word for “rushing waters”).

Make the most  of your morning and head back to Gypsy’s Table at the top of the hill in Monteville [parking behind restaurant]

Ask Leesa for her delightful $20 lunch plate or chose from her extensive menu both vegetarian and old world delights or ask her for something special that isn’t on the menu you might have to mention your staying at Artisan Spa Views with Randy and Maree though for an incredible day out you won’t forget.

New Year 2013 will burst out with shouts of Joy, Laughter and Good Luck with Good Health and Prosperity across the world to people from all walks of life with family, friends, soldiers, and carers in mind.

Anyone who frequents the Sunshine Coast hinterland can attest to the beautiful scenic landscape of the area. As we climbed the winding roads with glimpses of rolling hillsides and deep valleys we hoped that the views from our room would encapsulate some of the idyllic pastures – and indeed it did and so much more…

Upon arrival we were greeted by Randy, a cheerful woodcrafter and host. Immediately one felt welcomed in to a home – that personal touch that is so different to the atypical monotonous routine of a large establishments. This exceptional hospitality continued throughout our stay with Randy and Maree offering local knowledge (Maleny Fudge and Gelato is to die for!), and having prepared a bottle of wine and cheese platter for our arrival, as well as a scrumptious hot breakfast delivered to our room every morning.

Our room was spacious and well-appointed with Randy’s intricate woodwork being featured throughout. The four elements of the room that brought a big cheesy grin to our face were:
1) Sweeping uninterrupted views of the hinterland from our private balcony (see my traveller photos)
2) A luxurious, oversized spa-bath that shared the same view as our balcony
3) A massive king-size bed, again looking out across the balcony to the expansive valley
4) Lastly, a collection of movies to indulge in – free of course!

We have no hesitations in recommending Artisan Spa Views for anyone looking for a relaxing, intimate getaway or week-long stay.

Cheers, from guests S & J

Maleny Town has a lot of options for restaurants and cafes, many of them interesting and varied in flavours, especially around the outskirts of the township.

Every now and then I make a vow ‘Must try the new restaurants to keep life interesting’ … and to make sure there’s something new to blog!

Also Remember we live here, we’re not on holiday!  And we are often  busy organising the guesthouse and cabin for guests – so this winter decided to be more pro-active in the dining out. I’m all for that!  Cheers

Maleny is not big on night life, while the community centre is being renovated and will have a brand new movie house and function rooms later this year – it will be a welcome event.
